Ethel Hayward Weston Award

This award recognizes an alumna who has served an Alumnae Panhellenic Association as an Alumnae Panhellenic officer, chairman or delegate who has served in a distinguished manner in the performance of her duties and has implemented changes or improvements in the Alumnae Panhellenic.

Angie Ahrens, Beta Eta, Atlanta Alumnae Chapter

Angie was recommended by Ann O'Connell, NVPA and was selected overwhelmingly as this year's recipient. Angie Ahrens currently serves on the alumnae team as the Director of Alumnae Chapter Management.  In that role, she oversees the alumnae district directors and provides strategic direction to the management, growth, and operations of all Sigma Kappa alumnae chapters.

Angie moved to Atlanta, Georgia from Indianapolis a few years ago and quickly became a member of our alumnae chapter there. She jumped in right away as a chapter officer and arranged the chapter’s meetings and events.  She then entered the leadership rotation for the Atlanta Alumnae Panhellenic Association – AAPA – and has served as Secretary, Treasurer, and Vice President. She entered the rotation as President on April 28th.  According to Rebecca King, the past president of the AAPA, Angie has been a great asset to AAPA, bringing digital awareness of technology when there was a reticence to use it across different platforms.  She has also brought excellent organizational skills and best practices based on her employment at Sigma Kappa national headquarters and her Sigma Kappa volunteer work.  And she of course brings her fabulous professional event planning skills to this group.  In the Vice President position, Angie organized AAPA’s first networking event and Greek market that supports AAPA’s scholarship fund and women-owned businesses.  She also set up collegiate Panhellenic visits with the metro Atlanta colleges and universities and attended all AAPA meetings and events.
