History of the Leadership Consultant Program

Our program dates back to 1938 when Sigma Kappa had traveling secretaries. After that title we moved to field consultants and today we use the term leadership consultants. This title is common among many NPC sororities.  Until the late 90s leadership consultants were supervised under the volunteer structure of the national organization. It was not until around the 1997-1998 academic year that this program moved to be supervised under national headquarters staff. With the change of supervision came many changes to the program, most significantly the shift from viewing leadership consultants as national officers to viewing them as headquarters staff members. Over 300 women have traveled as a leadership consultant for Sigma Kappa. Leadership consultants are provided with over one month of training to prepare for the job ahead of them, additionally they receive a salary, employee benefits and a technology stipend to ensure their job needs are met.

Do any of the above words jump out at you?

If so, then you should consider applying to become a Sigma Kappa leadership consultant (LC) for the 2019-2020 academic year!

The role of a LC is to lead undergraduate officers and members in creating the finest and most rewarding collegiate experience a young woman can have. Leadership consultants are chosen to either live and work with our newestcolonies and chapters or to travel and visit our established chapters. In the end, both opportunities provide the LCs a chance to effect Sigma Kappa by teaching, training, educating and inspiring the women they come in contact with.

LCs will begin their year with training during the summer and their term continues throughout the academic year and usually lasts through the end of April. During the extensive training period, LCs learn to create and lead workshops, facilitate small group discussions, teach problem-solving techniques, assimilate to different environments quickly, acquire conflict resolution skills and communicate with collegians and alumnae on a regular basis.

Becoming a leadership consultant is a wonderful opportunity! If you have enjoyed your collegiate membership and would like to invest your talents, enhance your professional development, and assist in Sigma Kappa’s continued growth, you are the type of woman who would excel as a leadership consultant!
