Allowance Information

Sigma Kappa Sorority extends financial incentives and discounts (allowances) to all national officers as well as alumnae and collegiate chapters, advisory boards and corporation boards who meet the requirements. These will be sent at the beginning of March to the chapter president or national officer. It is strongly recommended that all voting delegates wait to make travel arrangements until their allowance information is received. Additional information on requirements needed to fulfill an allowance can be found below.

As convention is a working meeting, full participation is required of delegates and those receiving an allowance. A member who receives an allowance and chooses not to attend all sessions will be asked to reimburse the organization for the full allowance.

Collegiate Delegates

The first delegate from a collegiate chapter in good standing will receive an allowance that will be credited toward the registration cost through the registration process. The collegiate chapter is responsible for the entire cost of the second delegate. New members may not serve as a collegiate chapter’s first or second delegate. Other members of the chapter that wish to attend convention should register as a collegiate visitor with a full-time registration or Build Your Own registration package. The chapter or member will be responsible for payment of the registration fees.

Voting and Delegate Information

Sigma Kappa Bylaws designate who can attend convention as a voting delegate. Collegiate and alumnae chapter delegates are elected by their chapters, while other delegates are designated by virtue of the national office held. It is an honor and a responsibility to be selected as a convention delegate, and to participate in the decision-making process of the Sorority. Each delegate should be mindful of their responsibilities:

  • Be in good financial standing with the national organization and her chapter to attend convention.
  • Register for convention by the deadline date, with fees paid.
  • Before arrival at convention, review the Sigma Kappa Bylaws. Read and discuss any proposed amendments with your chapter, as well as the proposed slate for national council.

Each collegiate chapter is entitled to two collegiate delegates and one alumna advisor delegate. Collegiate chapters are encouraged to designate the chapter president as the first delegate and the other attendee as the second delegate. Both delegates should be voted on by the chapter. Collegiate chapter delegates are required to return to the chapter for one full year of active membership and to present information from convention to the chapter by Sept. 30, 2020.

Alumnae Delegates

The first delegate from an alumnae chapter in good standing will receive an allowance that will be credited toward the registration cost through the registration process. Any additional delegates’ expenses will be the responsibility of the chapter or the individual. Other chapter members attending convention should register as alumnae visitors, utilizing any registration package.
