The 90th Sigma Kappa national convention was held in Denver at the end of June. The event included the opportunity to see sisters after many years apart, vote on Bylaws revisions, be introduced to a more inclusive Ritual, celebrate sisters during award presentations, and attend educational sessions. Read below for a few highlights. Additional information will be shared in the autumn issue of the Sigma Kappa Triangle

Thank you to all those who attended. We are so glad you were able to join us as we celebrated our successes, highlighted new initiatives and partnerships, and reunited with one another after spending so much time apart.

Bylaws Updates

The convention body approved a complete revision of the Sigma Kappa Bylaws to incorporate changes needed for the shift of national council to a governance structure as well as the recommendations following a lengthy review under the lens of diversity, equity, inclusion and access. A few highlights are below. The updated Bylaws document will be available in The Learning Center in early August.

  • A revised purpose statement.
  • A shift in governance models for national council – the council is composed of the national president, national vice president for finance and six general vice presidents – all focused on the strategic direction of the organization.
  • A shift in alumnae chapter officer roles to three required officers: president, vice president of programming and vice president of finance.
  • A required diversity, equity, inclusion and access (DEIA) chair for collegiate chapters, a title change from vice president of membership to vice president of recruitment and the ability to elevate chair positions to executive council.
