Margaret Chase Smith
|
In this historic presidential election year, Sigma Kappa can't help but look towards "The Lady of Maine," also known as Margaret Chase Smith. She was a 1949 honor initiate of the Alpha Chapter, Colby College. By that time, she had already won a seat in the U.S. Senate representing Maine. Fifteen years later she would become the first woman to have her name placed in the nomination for the presidency by the Republican Party. Because of her claim to fame others have been taking note of this significant Sigma Kappa. Listen here to All Things Considered on NPR to learn more about Margaret Chase Smith. |
